berenice,
Thanks for your input.
Is it easy to get Shiitake in San Diego? I guess you can get dried Shiitake in the US. But if you tasted a raw one after being lightly roasted with a bit of soy source and lemon juice, you will forget dried ones.

hola Masanobu, yes! it's easy to get fresh Japanese food in San Diego, thanks to the Japanese community living here also there's this chain of stores called Mitsuwa, there are 3 stores in California, and one in Chicago and i think New Jersey, the prices are HIGH 'cause everything is imported from Japan, and i think Japan is expensive already, right? but the quality of the products is superb!! you'll like the website 'cause it is in Japanese, they have an English version too (which is the one i read)

also, gladly, this store is very close to my job, so for example today, i will buy a lunch box with Unagi for lunch :)

berenice,
Oh, yes. I like unagi.
But nowadays most of unagis being sold in Japan are imported from China. And the problem is that they are labeled "produce of Japan." You know what I mean...
